February 2022 Update
February 2022 is almost at an end so we’ve reached that time of the month where we reflect on what’s changed at Dunmore Range.
Fundraiser #2
The big announcement for our end-of-month update is that we are holding our second fundraiser for the Dunmore Range Association. Last year, our Range Finders Raffle had a great response with a prize pool of around $4,000 for the lucky 3 winners.
This year we will have 10 raffle prizes with gift vouchers from Shooters Delight, Cleaver Firearms, OzArms, and the Shooting Centre Gold Coast so far. We also have BCF & SuperCheap as alternatives for those that would prefer to update their camping gear instead of shopping for toys.
The details are still in the works so we’ll provide more information once they’re ironed out in the coming weeks.
Survey #2
Just like our fundraising efforts, we also undertook another public survey that included both old and new questions about what you want from a range. The questions were closed off this week and the process of analyzing the 180 completed surveys occurring this weekend.
From the initial results, we are on track with the majority of respondents showing that benchrest, PRS and ELR are what people want with a combination of paper and steel targets.
Range Design & Construction
Last month we mentioned that works had resumed after the “big wet” of last year and another set of storms looked to be on the way. Fortunately, the weather station is doing its job well & recorded a decent shower at 2:30 pm on Thursday 24th and then a massive drop at midnight last night.
1000-yard Range
This month saw the first major change to the 1000-yard range as it begins to take shape with the preliminary works captured by our dutiful drone & shared on our YouTube channel.
The clip shows the initial works on the 1000-yard range through to the butts and back towards where the firing line will be positioned. Although this stage is just the beginning, the area is unrecognizable from the old section that made its video debut in April 2021 (https://youtu.be/dlN5AdP7hRo).
Equipment & materials
Additional networking & communications gear has been ordered with our very own SpaceX / Starlink dish being delivered next week.
We are also awaiting our first delivery of AR500 steel targets to rough out the range layout after using Black Carbon MIL target sheets for distancing.
We certainly didn’t see the level of severe storms that others in the region and SEQ did but the Range Cat will be hard at work next week cleaning up roads and fire breaks while the ground is a little wet.
